Bank Launches 2017-18 'Scores for Kids' Program

Donation Program Returns for Third Season

Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids Burke & Herbert Bank again is adding extra reasons to "Rock the Red" and cheer on the Washington Capitals this season. For the third straight year, the Bank will sponsor the "Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids" program. Through this sponsorship program with NBC Sports Washington, the Bank will donate $100 to a children-focused non-profit for every goal the Capitals score during the 2017-18 season.

This year's recipient will be Falls-Church based "Connect Our Kids," a privately funded non-profit organization that is working to make important changes and enhancements in the foster care system.

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Jennifer Jacobs and Jessica Stern, the mission of Connect Our Kids is to develop intelligent software tools that social workers can use to find safe, loving families for foster children. Currently, social workers must search manually when trying to find extended family members of foster kids. Connect Our Kids seeks to accelerate and expand that search by pairing traditional detective work with innovative technology.

The "Scores for Kids" donation from Burke & Herbert Bank will go a long way toward helping Connect Our Kids achieve their goal of connecting more kids with families who can give them the support and attention they need. Dr. Jacobs says "there's no doubt that everyone at Connect Our Kids will be cheering on the Caps this season and rooting for another record-breaking scoring total."

The previous "Scores for Kids" seasons helped two other local non-profits continue their great work to help children in need. In the first year of the program, the Bank donated $25,200 to MVK Inc. Last season, Alice's Kids received $26,300, based on the number of goals scored by the Capitals.
