Caps Score 259 Goals, Connect Our Kids Scores $25,900!

A Great Season for the Caps and Connect Our Kids

Burke & Herbert Bank presents $25,900 check to Connect Our Kids

The Washington Capitals had another high-scoring season, adding five more goals in their regular-season finale on Saturday, April 7, to reach 259 for the year. Lots of people throughout the region were excited about the Caps' scoring success this season, but perhaps none more excited than Connect Our Kids co-founders Jennifer Jacobs and Jessica Stern. As this year's recipient of the Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids donation, Connect Our Kids has scored $25,900 – $100 for every Caps regular-season goal.

At the conclusion of the game, Washington Capitals television announcers Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin joined representatives from Burke & Herbert Bank to present the big check to Connect Our Kids. The $25,900 donation from Burke & Herbert Bank will provide Connect Our Kids with a big assist in its work to make important changes and enhancements in the foster care system.

Connect Our Kids is a privately funded, non-profit organization based in Falls Church, Virginia, working to bring intelligent technology tools to America's child welfare professionals. Currently, social workers must search manually when trying to find extended family members of foster kids. Connect Our Kids seeks to accelerate and expand that search by pairing traditional detective work with innovative technology. Burke & Herbert Bank's Scores for Kids donation will go a long way toward helping Connect Our Kids achieve its goal of connecting more children with families who can give them the support and attention they need.

The 2017-2018 season was the third season during which the Bank teamed up with NBC Sports Washington to sponsor the Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids program. The previous "Scores for Kids" seasons helped two other local non-profits continue their great work to help children in need. In the first year of the program, the Bank donated $25,200 to MVK Inc. and in the second year donated $26,300 to Alice's Kids.
