stay Alert

March is International Fraud Awareness Month – we’re sharing practical tips to help you protect your personal and financial information.
Be Alert
Fraudsters use clever tactics to get people to share personal or account information. Staying alert to common warning signs helps you protect your money and your identity.
Common Scam Types & Tactics
Phishing & Imposter Scams
Emails, texts, or calls that pretend to be your bank, a company, or a trusted contact and ask you to “confirm” passwords, passcodes, or account details. If you didn’t expect it, don’t share it.
Identity Theft
Someone uses your personal data to open accounts, make purchases, or access funds. Watch for unfamiliar transactions, credit inquiries, or alerts you didn’t trigger.
Pressure & Urgency
Claims of a problem or a prize, along with instructions to act immediately and not tell anyone. Real businesses give you time to decide.
Gift Card or Unusual Payment Requests
Directions to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfer, or to deposit a check and send money back—it’s probably a SCAM!
Avoiding Scams: Simple Habits That Work
• Pause before you click or reply. If something feels off, it probably is.
• Verify using a trusted source. Contact the company or the bank using a phone number or website you know is real—not links or numbers in the message you received.
• Never share passcodes or passwords. We will never ask for these by text, email, or unsolicited call.
• Refuse unusual payment methods. Don’t pay with gift cards, crypto, or wires for urgent requests. That’s a red flag.
• Talk it out. Tell a friend or your banker what you received—another perspective can help you spot a scam quickly.
