Burke & Herbert Bank Named WBJ’s Centennial Award Winner – Bank Recognized at Family-Owned Business Awards Event

Alexandria, VA, February 16 – Burke & Herbert Bank is honored to be this year’s recipient of the Washington Business Journal’s Centennial Award recognizing a longstanding family-owned business in Greater Washington. The Bank’s Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, E. Hunt Burke, accepted the award on behalf of the Bank at the Family-Owned Business Awards Event, which was held Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. In addition to presenting the Centennial Award to Burke & Herbert Bank, the Washington Business Journal recognized 14 other multi-generational, family-owned local businesses for overall excellence at the Family-Owned Business Awards Event.

Burke & Herbert Bank was founded in 1852 by John Woolfolk Burke and Arthur Herbert. Chairman and CEO Hunt Burke is the great-great grandson of one of the Bank’s founding partners, and represents the fifth generation of the Burke family in a leadership role at the Bank. Mr. Burke, who assumed the role of Chairman in 2010, and W. Scott McSween, who joined the Bank as President & Chief Operating Officer in 2009, now manage the nearly 165-year old Bank.
