Bank Hires Additional Experienced Bankers and Elevates Team Leader to Support Growth

Alexandria, VA – Burke & Herbert Bank announced today that three commercial bankers have joined the Bank’s growing Commercial Banking and Lending team. The Bank is pleased to welcome Elena G. Shipina, Zackery Hodges, and Paul Covill – each of whom bring significant commercial banking experience in the local northern Virginia/greater Fredericksburg market to their new commercial banking roles at Burke & Herbert Bank.   Ms. Shipina joins the Bank as a Senior Portfolio Manager; Mr. Hodges and Mr. Covill will serve as Commercial Relationship Managers.  In addition, veteran commercial banker Lee Pugh, who joined the Bank earlier this year, has been elevated to the position of Senior Vice President and Commercial Banking Team Leader to provide additional leadership and support to the growing team.  In this role, Mr. Pugh will work closely with Gregory Mellors, the Bank’s Director of Commercial & Industrial Lending to enhance and expand the Bank’s commercial lending program, including additional expansion into new markets.

Ms. Shipina is an accomplished commercial banking professional with more than eight years of experience in commercial client acquisition and relationship management, credit portfolio management, and underwriting, most recently serving as Commercial Portfolio Manager for Wells Fargo in Washington, DC.  She is a graduate of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia and earned her MBA in Business Finance at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Mr. Hodges comes to Burke & Herbert Bank from Wells Fargo where he served as a Commercial Relationship Manager responsible for new business development and management of existing client relationships.  His prior experience includes eight years of active duty military service as a United States Army Healthcare Specialist.  Mr. Hodges is a graduate of Stratford University in Alexandria, Virginia where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business.

Mr. Covill gained his banking experience at Wells Fargo, serving in a variety of roles for the bank in Des Moines, Iowa and in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  For the past six years, he was a Treasury Management Sales Consultant, delivering treasury solutions to commercial clients and managing a portfolio of treasury services customers throughout various markets in Virginia.  Mr. Covill earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from AIB College of Business. 

In their new roles at Burke & Herbert Bank, Ms. Shipina and Mr. Hodges will operate out of the Bank’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia and focus on businesses in the metro Washington/northern Virginia market.  Mr. Covill will work out of the Bank’s new regional headquarters in Fredericksburg, Virginia and focus on developing relationships with commercial clients in that region.
