Bank Names Recipient of 'Hundreds for Homes' Sponsorship

Non-Profit Homestretch to Benefit from 2019-20 Program

Alexandria, VA (Oct. 7, 2019) – Burke & Herbert Bank is pleased to announce that Homestretch, a local Falls Church-based non-profit organization, will be this season's recipient of the Bank's "Hundreds for Homes" donation during the 2019-20 National Hockey League (NHL) season. Through this sponsorship with NBC Sports Washington, Burke & Herbert Bank will donate $100 to Homestretch for every goal scored by the Washington Capitals during the regular hockey season. The 2019-20 season marks the fifth season during which Burke & Herbert Bank has teamed up with NBC Sports Washington to raise awareness and direct funds to a worthy local non-profit.

Homestretch empowers homeless parents with children to attain permanent housing and self-sufficiency by providing the skills, knowledge and hope they need to become productive participants in the community. Along with housing, Homestretch provides a vast array of services to impact the lives of the families it serves.

"We are delighted by the generosity of Burke & Herbert Bank and honored that Homestretch was selected as this year's donation recipient," said Christopher Fay, Homestretch Executive Director. "In addition to the generous contribution from the Bank, we are excited about 'Hundreds for Homes' bringing more visibility to our work, which depends on a vital network of volunteers and partners, to help local families acquire skills to find productive employment, increase their incomes, repair their credit and restore their health. Hundreds for Homes gives all of us at Homestretch another great reason to root for the hometown Caps and makes us even bigger fans of Burke & Herbert Bank!"

The Bank started its popular donation sponsorship in 2015, in partnership with NBC Sports Washington, to leverage the excitement of the hockey season and the enthusiasm of Capitals on-air announcers Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin to help a deserving local non-profit organization. Under the moniker "Burke & Herbert Bank Scores for Kids," the Bank donated more than $25,000 to Most Valuable Kids Inc. in 2016, Alice's Kids, Inc. in 2017, and Connect our Kids, Inc. in 2018. Last season, the Bank named the program "Burke & Herbert Bank Hundreds for Homes" and donated more than $28,000 to Rebuilding Together DC–Alexandria.

"We are thrilled to be able to continue the 'Burke & Herbert Bank Hundreds for Homes' program again this year," said Terry Cole, Executive Vice President at Burke & Herbert Bank. "As a local community Bank, it is important to us to go beyond banking to make a difference in the lives of people right here in our neighborhood. Through this season's Hundreds for Homes program, we will provide a significant assist to Homestretch, and, in turn, to families in our community who are in need." She added, "We are excited about our continued partnership with the team at NBC Sports Washington and honored to welcome Homestretch as our Hundreds for Homes partner and donation recipient this year. It's going to be another great Capitals season!"

Homestretch, founded in 1990, empowers homeless parents with children to move from crisis to financial independence and long-term stability. Homestretch moves the family into a neighborhood home, and then provides services based on their specific circumstances, needs, and goals. During their time with Homestretch, parents work at a job, pay a percentage of their income for rent, and put money into savings. Ninety percent of Homestretch clients complete the program with a job, an affordable home, their debts paid off, and savings in the bank. Two years after graduation, 95% of Homestretch clients are still working and living in their own homes. For more information visit homestretchva.org.
