SCAN of Northern Virginia Launches Annual Coin Drive

Burke & Herbert Bank to Match Donations Made at Branches

Alexandria, VA, April 6, 2018 – SCAN of Northern Virginia announced the launch of its annual coin drive with Burke & Herbert Bank during their "Allies in Prevention" luncheon today. Donations collected will be used to fund child abuse prevention programs. Burke & Herbert Bank will match donations made in its branches throughout the month of April – National Child Abuse Prevention Month – up to $1,000. The Bank and SCAN also will join in displaying the blue pinwheel, which is the national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention.

All 25 Burke & Herbert Bank branches throughout Northern Virginia will accept cash donations through April 30. Large coin donations should be taken to branches with QuickChange machines, where the normal fee will be waived for coins being donated.

"Protecting children in our community is everyone's responsibility. More than 10,000 children were reported as abused or neglected in Northern Virginia alone just last year. Yet, we know how to make a difference. Supporting parents and protecting children from abuse and trauma are critical to setting up our next generation for success," said Sonia Quiñónez, SCAN's Executive Director. "That’s why SCAN is thrilled to be partnering with Burke & Herbert Bank to raise awareness across Northern Virginia about the devastating consequences of child abuse and invest in programs that work right here in our own community."

"To show support for National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, Burke & Herbert Bank team members joined SCAN of Northern Virginia today in wearing blue. We’re pleased to support this worthy cause and happy to host the coin drive in all our branches, providing people throughout the community with an easy, convenient way to participate. Bring your spare change, no matter how little, and join us in making a difference for children in our community," said Terry Cole, Burke & Herbert Bank Executive Vice President.
